Who is ROMANO?
“I’m a junior industrial designer at Semcom with a Bachelor's in Design from UTS and a Master's in Design from the University of Sydney. I have two years of experience in product design, specialising in FMCG and tech industries. Both fields require staying ahead of rapidly evolving trends, which is a challenge I enjoy and find deeply rewarding."
WHEN DID THE JOURNEY BEGIN?
“I started with pencil drawings at age 14 in Korea, but industrial design was what stole my heart. It’s not just about looking good, it’s about storytelling through shapes, materials, and colours, to truly connect with people.”​
CREATIVITY VS ENGINEERING, which one counts more?
“Creativity and engineering go hand in hand. Creativity sparks ideas, engineering makes them work. Materials, manufacturing, or costs are not limits but challenges that fuel innovation.“
WHAT PART DO MATERIALS PLAY in Permanent POS?
“Metal welding, wood grains direction, laser cutting: there is a lot of technical knowledge around materials, like strength, flexibility, durability and sustainability. It’s key for the design of practical, long lasting and eye-catching displays.“

What are the main trends & future directions of POS / retail design?
"The retail design industry is evolving rapidly due to changing consumer behaviours, technological advancements, and a focus on sustainability. To support sustainability, we launched Go-Eco, a sub-brand offering recyclable and reusable display solutions, and Display CRATE, a customisable, reusable system that helps brands reduce waste. Additionally, the POS market is integrating interactive technologies to enhance customer engagement. By combining innovation with sustainability, we create standout displays that align with modern, eco-conscious, and tech-savvy consumers.”
